Cranston High School West #1 Singles Player Makes School History on His Senior Night

On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Connor Ainley, a senior and number one singles player at Cranston High School West (Cranston, RI), made school history. He achieved his 50th regular-season win at the number one singles position on his senior night against North

Smithfield High School (North Smithfield, RI) at the Cranston West tennis courts. These 50 wins do not count any tournament wins he has accomplished. Of these 50 regular-season victories, 46 were earned against D2 adversaries, while 3 came against D1 competition and 1 against a D3 opponent. This is also a first for head coach Brendan O’Connell, as Ainley is his first four-year player.

In addition to the celebration of Ainley’s milestone, five other graduating seniors were honored during the team’s senior night festivities. Distinguished guests in attendance included Principal John Fontaine, Athletic Director Michael Traficante, and School Committee Member Anthony Melillo, alongside many supportive family members of the players and past members of the program.
